At the offices of 1st Option Digital, people travel in every day from all over London and for some people, even from outside of London. In this ever more crowded City many of us call home, commuting can be a bit of a bun fight and in some cases, even quite dangerous. So, we took an office poll on some of the most effective ways of getting into work.
Walking – Probably not the quickest way to travel but again it’s healthy and cheap! There’s a lot of talk about how important it is to get your 10,000 steps in every day and there’s no doubt that for most of us the walk to work would certainly have that one covered, unless of course you’re Abi, who lives just up the road… In reality though, it’s unlikely that there would be many people in this office that would be willing to consider this as a serious option – walking from Walthamstow, Chigwell, Peckham or St. Albans every day would probably be a few steps too far…
The Cable Car – The Emirates Air Line is a cable car service that crosses the Thames between Greenwich in the south and The Royal Docks north of the river. Primarily set up as a tourist attraction, the people in the office that it might benefit consists of precisely nobody. The other fundamental problem is that it’s nowhere near Primrose Hill…
The Thames Ferry – Possibly the most peaceful and relaxing way to travel around London. The Thames Ferry runs from Putney to Greenwich and you can use your Oyster Card onboard. Perfect then! Well no, although we’d all arrive for work feeling stress free and revitalised, unfortunately Primrose Hill is nowhere near the River Thames either, so that one’s out too.
The Tube – Probably the most popular option in our office. The tube pretty much goes everywhere, even to some of the London extremities, so as long as you don’t live too far from a tube station it’s usually the most convenient option. Only drawback with the tube though is that it can give you SADs disease from lack of sunlight…
The Overground – A life-saver if you live outside of London as commuting in can be relatively easy and quick with lines coming into major stations around the capital, plus smaller stations that are near to Primrose Hill, such Kentish Town West and Camden Road. For some people it’s an option to get across the city too with good links in most places. The great thing about traveling this way is that you usually get to see a bit of the city, which is always a bonus.
The Car – A bit of a swear-word these days, granted. Probably not the easiest option either, with congestion charging, emission taxes and the hassle and expense of trying to find somewhere to park. Luckily, we have a parking space at the office, so we have somewhere safe to put the company van…
