It’s easy to get caught up watching your post likes increase without asking yourself ‘why is that happening’? You may naturally think the more likes your posts are getting the better, but the real question is ‘where are the likes coming from and how can you get more of them’?!
Good Original Content
Good engaging original content is always going to get likes. This is due to many factors but the main one is Meta’s algorithms, that are used for Meta social media sites: Instagram, Facebook and Threads have learned the difference between when you are reposting images that have been used before or posting original content. Therefore, if your account is posting engaging, original content and people are fully engaging with it, the algorithms will continue to promote your posts in other people’s feeds.
Creating original content will not only drive your likes but it will up your engagement too and as you engage back, the algorithm will learn that you are a reliable account and push your content even further!
Copy what’s working!
Take a scroll through your social media feeds and note down what your followers are loving, meaning your posts with the most shares, comments and likes. Say one of your best performing posts is a picture of a happy pug and a happy owner, try creating similar posts and play around with the format to diversify your feed.
What have we learned?
Learning how to up your likes is great, however, it is important to note that likes should not be the end goal when posting content. The goal should be to keep your followers engaged and coming back to see more. This means implementing the ‘Original Content’ and ‘Copy What’s Working’ strategies into your content calendar and actively tailoring your content towards what people are gravitating towards.
