The internet is changing. With new technologies emerging daily it’s becoming harder to keep up, especially knowing friends and foes when it comes to AI, especially AI image generation.
Being able to generate images through AI isn’t a new concept, DALL.E and Midjourney have been creating AI images for a while now with varying levels of success. However, the recent ChatGPT 4.0 image generation update has split opinions down the middle and sparked new conversations as it’s creating higher quality images than previously ever seen before.
So, what’s the role of AI Image Generation in Marketing?
Rapid Content Creation
Marketers can generate high quality visuals in minutes, this is ideal for fast moving campaigns that need quick visuals. It’s also great for A/B testing and reactive content, AI image generation is also useful for creating on demand images when stock doesn’t cut it or custom shoots aren’t feasible.

Concept Development
Creating early stage campaign details can be a painstakingly long process. With AI image generation visuals can be whipped up quickly to give a creative vision before committing to a shoot. It’s also a great tool for pitching ideas to clients and stakeholders without a full production budget.
I made this idea in around 30 seconds using this prompt: Make me a quick image for a campaign for diet coke. Include fluffy white labrador puppies in a field and diet coke cans rolling down a hill.
With a better prompt there’s no limit to what you could do.

Experimenting Creatively Without Limits
Ever had an idea in your head that you just couldn’t find the resources to create? A big fantastic futuristic campaign that would only be available to a company with a huge budget is now available to the everyday marketer. Marketers in smaller teams can now create without financial limits, encouraging bold, outside the box thinking for campaigns and brand visuals. Talking of outside the box thinking, have you seen people turning themselves into Barbies! Check out the X post about how to make your own!

Although these are some pretty amazing benefits there’s some ethical concerns and legal grey areas. Concerns around copyright, representation and misuse are rife. These concerns have always been floating around but AI video generation of Studio Ghibli style videos and images have poured fuel onto the fire.

So, what can we expect in the future?
We can definitely expect to see AI embedded into design platforms like Adobe and Canva for seamless use. We’re already seeing this in Photoshop with expanding image tools. We could also see a brand kit completely created and manipulated by AI, using your brand identity to create content across multiple social media platforms at the click of a button.
